The greatest threat to a man's health is still himself
A recent research (2008) from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great
Britain concluded that men's attitude affects their healthcare. This work
revealed that 59% of men are reluctant to ask for help and only seek medical
advice if they are 'in great pain or very ill'. According to study
conclusion, this 'macho' approach is responsible for reducing men's life
expectancy by up to five years.
With no doubt, over the last 20 years men smoke and drink less and pay much
better attention to their diets. As a result of this change in habits and
lifestyle men's health has been improving. But there still a significant
difference between men and women, as the gap has only decreased from 5.8
years to 4.3 years.
What men need now is a change in attitude. They need to step out of the 'big
boys don't cry' old mind-set and start thinking their health problems
seriously. Statistics show that men are at much greater risk than women of
developing chronic illnesses such as heart and respiratory disease. Men are
more likely than women to be mentally ill. Compared with women, the suicide
rate among men is increasing.
According to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain research,
it's time to get into the men's habit in order to make them to ask medical
professional help more regularly. This right moment, the greatest threat to
a man's health is still himself. To snap out this macho mentality, men need
help. First of all they need women's help because, as we said many times,
children need both parents.
