According to the results of a study at the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland, male aging is associated with a gradual decrease in circulating testosterone, which may be detrimental to bone. In community-dwelling men older than 60 years, serum testosterone levels were independently associated with the risk for osteoporotic fracture.
However, the authors report in the January 14 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine that the relationship between testosterone and incident fracture risk remains unclear.
