A recent study at the Eastman Dental Center, part of the University of Rochester Medical Center, has concluded that overweight kids have fewer cavities and healthier teeth as compared to normal weight children.
The big questions are now either overweight children are eating foods higher in fat rather than cavity-causing sugars, either their diets are similar to normal weight peers but lead more sedentary lifestyles.
The conclusion of the study, published in this month’s issue of Community Dentistry & Oral Epidemiology, is that researchers need to analyze both diet and lifestyle is needed to better understand the results.
