According to an Australian study, anti-depressant treatments for older people fail to work fully, and leave sufferers to battle a condition known to ’shorten people’s lives’.
The study, based in Perth, investigated the effectiveness of anti-depressant drugs or psychotherapy used by depressed men aged over 68. Researchers concluded that depression treatment works in less than half of the cases, as more than half of older men with depression who use antidepressants or psychotherapy fail to respond fully to the treatment.
