A research team at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine has found the way cholesterol contributes to atherosclerosis. This bad contribution is made by suppressing the activity of a key protein that protects the heart and blood vessels and is a condition that greatly rises the risk of heart attack and stroke.
As heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, These new findings are very important for designing new therapies to treat or prevent heart disease as well as to have answers to key questions about other diseases associated with high cholesterol levels, including some types of cancer.
The study is published in an early online edition of the Journal of Cell Science. continue
