Ventricular fibrillation is a potentially fatal condition in which the heart fails to contract properly. The emergency defibrillators now commonly found in airports and other public places have saved thousands of adult cardiac arrest victims.
Recent studies have concluded that children do also experience ventricular fibrillation, so the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) reminded that the defibrillators can safely be used on children younger than 8 years old.
