A recent study at University of Georgia finds that pectin, a type of fiber present in vegetables and fruits kills prostate cancer cells. th study. The study concluded that exposure of cancer cells to pectin reduces, under laboratory condition, the number of cancerous cells by up to 40 percent.
Pectin a very complex molecule of nature. It has the extraordinary potential to bind to several sites on cells and to elicit several different cellular responses at the same time. UGA Cancer Center researchers concluded that pectin even killed cells difficult to treat with current medications because they aren’t sensitive to hormone therapy.
The study was published in the August issue of the journal Glycobiology
