A scientific team in Italy claim to have developed a pill that is capable to control hunger for a few hours. This new finding may help overweight people in their struggle against the bulge.
The tiny pill is made from a hydrogel. The online edition of BBC News reported that this pill, which is yet to be named, is powdery when dry but when swallowed turns to a jelly-like ball in the stomach. Scientists at Italy’s National Research Council consider that it is easily flushed out by the body and can stop hunger for a few hours.
Made from an organic compound called cellulose the pill makes dieters feel full. It should be taken about 30 minutes to one hour before each meal. Then pill passes through the digestive system within five to six hours. People could still eat a meal but would need only small portions. one of the researchers tried the pill at about 11 a.m. and was still feeling full at six in the evening.
Italian scientists also begin a trial involving 90 obese volunteers. The conclusions are expected later in October this year. The team expect the product to be launched on the market in May 2008.
