Cardiovascular complications, such as heart disease, are a main cause of death for people with diabetes.
A research team at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences have reached an amazing conclusion: more fat may have some benefits, at least for type 1 diabetes sufferers.
This team have studied the links between coronary artery calcification (an early sign of heart disease) and body fat. The team focused on 315 patients with type 1 diabetes involving in the Pittsburgh Epidemiology of Diabetes Complications Study. Less severe artery calcification was associated with greater fat persisted even when controlling for normal cardiovascular disease risk factors such as bad cholesterol, good cholesterol, triglycerides, increased levels of LDL or high blood pressure.
This new results are not a firm recommendation to people with type 1 diabetes to gain weight, but there is possibility that weight recommendations in type 1 diabetes to be different than those for the general population.
