Doctors use the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test to detect cancer presence and a high PSA score indicates cancer may be present. But some men with cancer might have low PSA levels as well as men with raised PSA are cancer free.
Recently, a genetic test which provide a more accurate detection of prostate cancer in urine has been launched in the UK. Progensa test, developed by Gen-Probe, evaluates the activity of a gene closely linked to prostate cancer - PCA3. and then it could make the diagnosis of the disease more accurate and reduce unnecessary biopsies in some men.
