Most Older Men With Localized Prostate Cancer Can Avoid Treatment

A new study presented at the 2008 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, California, suggests that active surveillance is a reasonable option for older men with early-stage prostate cancer. Californian researchers showed that the majority of older men with localized prostate cancer died of competing causes of death or did not develop complications that required surgery or radiation therapy.
