A recent study conducted at the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Minnesota, gives consumers another healthy reason to make soy part of their diet suggesting that soy protein may play a significant role in lowering the risk of prostate cancer.
The study evaluated the influence of consuming soy protein on elimination of estrogen metabolites in urine of male patients at a high risk for prostate cancer. After examining biopsies of prostate tissue, the researchers found that androgen receptors were reduced in the prostate, which is consistent with a reduced risk of prostate cancer.
