Statistics show that sexual disfunctions are common among men with arthritis. Until now doctors have believed impotence is an effect of the disease rather than the pain relief.
Recently, a research team at Finland’s University of Tampere concludes that painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin, often used by men for arthritis cure, may increase the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Researchers investigated a group of 1,126 men aged 50 to 70. They found that those taking painkillers were twice as likely to develop impotence as non-users. The Finnish team has been unable to provide an explanation for this finding.
