Sexually transmitted infections are on the increase in Kent with little indication the trend will stop.
Figures obtained by KOS Media via the Freedom of Information Act reveal cases of chlamydia and genital warts in particular have risen dramatically over the last three years.
Despite the increases, the number of gonorrhoea cases has remained relatively stable throughout the county and in some areas has dropped. An official said this was due to symptoms of the infection being recognised soon after it had been caught, whereas chlamydia can often go undetected for years.
He advised people between the ages of 16 to 25 to have sexual health checks at least once a year. They often have no idea they have chlamydia and are then understandably devastated when in some cases they find out they cannot have children because of it.
