Italian researchers from the Hospital of Prato suggest that having isolated arthritis in only one knee could be an early warning symptom for lung cancer. This finding is based on study evaluating 6654 patients having various rheumatic disorders, including 296 with isolated knee arthritis.
Researchers report in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases that the isolated arthritis totally disappeared after lung cancer surgery and they consider that being a proof the two conditions are linked.
Based on this conclusion, all heavy smoker who presents (with) mild knee arthritis should x-ray tested.
