According to the Mayo Clinic, signs and symptoms of testicular cancer include a lump or enlargement in either testicle, a feeling of heaviness in the scrotum, a dull ache in the abdomen or groin, pain or discomfort, a sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum, enlargement or tenderness of the male breasts, or unexplained fatigue or a general malaise.
There’s much fear, shame and stigma surrounding this cancer. A lot of young men don’t go to the doctor when they should. They think they have to be strong, so they don’t seek help until it’s too late. Would they do the same if they had a gunshot wound, he asks? Obviously not.
Like breast cancer, there are a lot of psycho-social issues and many men who get it feel like the words are written across their foreheads. Because of male sexual identify, there is a feeling that they are less than a man with this cancer. Many men have said they went for treatment and are cured, but they never told their families. But, as long as it is early detected, this is the best cancer men can have.
