Diabetes is on an incredible increase in the United States. This medical condition has become a very serious health issue as over 25 million people have diabetes and 6 million more have it without knowing the situation.
While most people have heard the term diabetes, few understand what really diabetes is, and more importantly, its consequences.
What are dangers of Diabetes?
1. The persistently high blood glucose level results in damage to the cells especially those of the blood vessels. The body cells lining the fine capillaries in the kidneys are most vulnerable. Injure to those blood vessels will result in kidney failure requiring dialysis.
2. When blood vessels in the eyes retina are affected then blindness often occurs .
3. When blood vessels to the nerves are injured, the nerve damage may cause pain and numbness in the feet giddiness, or even impotence in men.
4. Diabetes accelerates a condition called atherosclerosis, that means the narrowing of arteries with fatty plaque. The diabetic sufferers are at the risk of
stoke, coronary heart disease and foot gangrene. According to statistics, death from heart attack is twice as
common in persons with diabetes.
What are types of Diabetes?
Type 1 Diabetes - It is also called "juvenile" diabetes because it is usually diagnosed in young children.
Type 1 Diabetes sufferers are about 5-10% of all diabetic cases. It is found when the pancreas fails to produce any insulin at all, or only a little amount that cannot help the normal body functioning.
Type 1 Diabetes patients must receive a daily injection of insulin medicine, without they cannot survive.
Type 2 Diabetes - This is the most common form of diabetes, while 90-95% of diabetic cases are Type 2.
This medical condition is diagnosed when pancreas doesn't continue to produce enough insulin in a natural way,
or when the body cells no longer respond to the action of insulin any longer. Generally, type 2 Diabetes patients
can control the situation through diet and exercise. If this stops to produce the necessary results, then oral
medication can be administrated.
