New discovery could reduce the health risk of high-fat foods

Just as additives help gasoline burn cleaner, a research report published in the January 2008 print issue of The
FASEB Journal shows that the food industry could take a similar approach toward reducing health risks associated
with fatty foods. These “meal additives” would be based on work of Israeli researchers who discovered that
consuming polyphenols (natural compounds in red wine, fruits, and vegetables) simultaneously with high-fat foods
may reduce health risks associated with these foods.

As a new year approaches, the American Society for Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy (ASGE) encourages all men and women age 50 and over to add getting
screened for colorectal cancer to their list of New Year's resolutions for
2008. Recent studies have confirmed that a majority of Americans who should
be screened for colorectal cancer are not. Colorectal cancer is a
preventable and treatable disease when caught in its early stages. If you
are age 50 or over, talk to your doctor about the colorectal cancer
screening method that is best for you.

of care and treatment. More often than not, a spouse is called on to be the
caregiver. Unfortunately, the spouse often lacks the information and
confidence necessary to provide all the care needed. In many cases, the
